Cheryl Chaddick

Born and raised in Texas, Ms. Chaddick has danced professionally in ballet and modern throughout her career with 5 different companies in San Francisco, culminating in a European tour with Zaccho Dance Theater, an aerial site-specific dance company.

Since that time, Ms. Chaddick was also one of the leading contemporary dance teachers in San Francisco for over 20 years. She taught as faculty for over 25 years at (LINES) San Francisco Dance Center. Her teaching includes the University of California in Berkeley’s Dance and Theater Dept., the University of Texas at Austin Dance and Theater Dept. and has spent several summers teaching for Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet’s Pre-Professional program and San Francisco Conservatory of Dance Summer Intensives. For 7 years she was commissioned as a guest choreographer at San Francisco School of the Performing Arts as well as invited to teach and help train the next generation of young dancers, which spanned over 15 years.

In 2007, Ms. Chaddick moved back to her native Texas home, drawn to Austin with its vibrant and growing art scene, and drawn to the people of Texas. To mark a new beginning in her artistic career, she formed Chaddick Dance Theater where she has received two nominations for her debut concert “Second Wind” for “best dancers” from the Austin Critics Table Awards and then again garnered another nomination for Best Choreography for an evening-length work for her tour at Ballet Austin, “The Interior Landscape of the Emotional Mind,” which premiered in the spring of 2013 by The Austin Chronicle.

 

Last year Ms. Chaddick was again nominated 3 times for Best Short Work, Best Choreographer, and Best Duet for her premiered work, “Vicissitudes”. Ms. Chaddick has established 2 successful professional dance companies, one established for 25 years in San Francisco, “Company Chaddick” and now in Austin “Chaddick Dance Theater” which will be coming into 10 years of existence.

She continues to be a thriving creative force in the Austin dance scene where she currently teaches, runs and owns “First Street Studio” a studio/theater/performance space. In the past couple of years, Ms. Chaddick has been the curator for the “First St. Studio Fall Festival”, inviting diverse forms of dance companies, which has proven to be a wildly successful event. In 2016 Chaddick Dance Theater garnered another nomination for her eclectic genre of dance for CDT'S Fall Dance Festival 2016.

Cheryl Chaddick has been in the dance field for over 35 years where she has danced professionally in several companies and productions, has become a well- known director/choreographer and continues to be a master teacher in the U.S.
